LUNDU: The road connecting Sarawak and Indonesia needs to be upgraded before Indonesia relocates its administrative capital to East Kalimantan.

In stating this, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said this initial preparation needs to be done by the Malaysian side no later than 2024.

“I have raised this issue to the federal cabinet recently urging them to improve and upgrade the connecting roads to dual carriageways such as roads in Tebedu, Lundu, Jalan Biawak, and so on.

“This is because with the upgrade made, it will make it easier for tourists from Indonesia and Sabah to come to Sarawak in the future,” he said after the closing ceremony of the Batang Kayan Lundu Festival 2022 at Lundu Waterfront on Sunday (Sept 25).

The relocation from Jakarta in Java Island to Nusantara located in East Kalimantan is set for August 2024 with the celebration of the country’s national day.
