KUCHING: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA) seeks help from the state government to further assist in invigorating the property market in Sarawak.

SHEDA has urged the state government to decelerate the existing pace of OPR levels until the price of commodities stabilises and the availability of foreign labour returns to normal.

Furthermore, SHEDA requested that the state government cap the interest rate for all housing loans up to RM500,000.00 and relax the eligibility criteria for obtaining financing and credit.

SHEDA said this when speaking to New Sarawak Tribune on Yesterday (July 16) at SHEDA’s State Secretariat’s Office in Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre.

“Waive the minimum income requirement for Sri Pertiwi Affordable Housing which is currently set at RM4,000 to encourage more home ownership amongst B40 Sarawakians,” it said.

Separately, SHEDA has also proposed the state government to revise the maximum selling price for all Government Affordable Housing Schemes to ensure sufficient and sustainable supply.

“Increase the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) grant from RM10,000 to 10 per cent of the selling price,” the association urged.

In attendance at the interview was SHEDA president Augustine Wong, its deputy president, Louis Ting and Ex-Officio Council member Zaidi Ahmad.
