Passport, health insurance, immigration documents: Before heading off on a trip abroad, it pays to have digital copies of your most important travel documents with you in case of emergency.
This can be a lifesaver if, for example, your passport or ID card is stolen or gets lost in transit. A digital copy can make it easier to prove your identity and get your hands on an emergency document or replacement passport, experts say.
A scan or photo of your essential travel documents can easily be kept on a cloud service or on your smartphone, ideally password protected and encrypted.
In case of an emergency at home, important documents such as household insurance or proof of ownership can also come in handy if you have them stored online so you can remotely access them by smartphone. – dpa
