KOTA SAMARAHAN: Christians of the Anglican faith here will have a new beautiful and spacious church to worship in by end of this May as the RM5 million St Francis’s Anglican Church will be ready by then.

According to its priest in charge Reverend Canon Dennis Gimang the double-storey church building would be consecrated by end of September this year.

He said it could accommodate more than 1,000 worshippers at any one time and has a lift for the benefit of the elderlies.

Dennis said this after a visit earlier today by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah who had wanted to check on the construction progress of the church.

Dennis added that the church which is now 90 per cent completed, would have been ready if not for some construction changes.

“On behalf of the church and the Anglican faithful here, I wish to express our deepest appreciation to the Sarawak government for donating RM1 million to its construction cost through Unifor (Unit for other religions).

“We would also like to thank Uggah, who is Unifor chairman for his part in helping us to secure the donation as well,” he said.

Uggah accompanied by Unifor chief executive officer Datuk Dr Janggu Ngenang and a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr Richard Rapu spent about one hour at the site.
