KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster named as the Bah Sayap Cluster has been identified by the State Health Department.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this cluster involved Miri District and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.

“The index case for this cluster was Case 1,116 who was detected on Dec 31 last year after screening at a private hospital in Miri,” he said in a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update on Tuesday (Jan 5).

Uggah said the number of positive cases involving this cluster to date was five persons including the index cases plus the additional one new positive Covid-19 case reported on Tuesday (Jan 5).

“A total of 48 individuals has been screened, with five testing positive, 41 negative and another two still awaiting the test results,” he said.

Uggah said with the newly declared cluster, there were now three active clusters in the state, namely the Stutong Cluster with 10 positive cases after an additional one case was reported on Tuesday (Jan 5) and the Mador Cluster in Meradong with eight cases but no new cases.
