KUCHING: A new bridge to replace the rundown one at Sungai Enseriban in Limbang is currently being planned by the state government.

Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said this will be implemented under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

He said a similar plan is in the works for the Semena bridge along with building a road from Nanga Medamit to Kampung Pulau Brunei.

“For the long term, the Sarawak government through the NRDA has a project plan to build a road from Nanga Medamit to Kampung Pulau Brunei.

“This includes the construction of bridges on Sungai Enseriban and Sungai Semena,” he told the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) recently.

He was commenting on the recently damaged Sungai Enseriban bridge which cut off several villages and longhouses in the Ulu Medamit area.

Among the affected areas are Kampung Semena, Rantau Kiran, Kampung Bukit Batu and around Kuala Mendalam.

“The logging companies involved have been informed of the damages which occurred almost two weeks ago due to heavy rain and overflowing from the river.

“I also understand that the company will start repair work as soon as the water recedes and the condition permits it,” he said.

He added that the company was asked to speed up the repair work to solve the problems of the residents who depended on the bridge.
