KUCHING: The State Health Department (JKNS) has declared a new cluster called the Buloh Cluster in Selangau District, Sibu.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said the Buloh Cluster is a community cluster involving three longhouses in the Sungai Buloh area, Selangau District.
“The index case for this cluster is a local woman aged 32 who was detected through symptomatic screening on Feb 21. The case had been experiencing signs and symptoms since Feb 17,” SDMC said.
The spread of the infection had occurred through close association among the residents of the longhouses involved.
“As a result of detection and screening carried out on close contacts to this case, there have been an additional 27 new cases detected,” it said.
The committee said a total of 68 individuals had been screened, whereby 28 had tested positive including the index case, 36 tested negative, and four were still awaiting their results.
“All 28 cases have been admitted to Sibu Hospital and the Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Sibu for the purpose of isolation and further treatment,” said SDMC.
With the addition of this new cluster, the total number of active clusters in Sarawak rose to 27.
These were the Buloh Cluster in Selangau; Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong; Emperoh Jambu, Jalan Green, Kampung Sungai Maong, and Indah Riang Clusters in Kuching; Sungai Bakong and Bintang Daily Clusters in Meradong; Kejatau and Sebangkoi Clusters in Sri Aman; Jan Yong and Gelong Clusters in Kapit; Geronggang, Mas Merah, and Pasai Clusters as well as Tangap (Subis) Sub-Cluster in Sibu; Univista and Jalan Ho Pin Clusters in Samarahan; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng Clusters in Bintulu; Nanga Lijan Cluster in Julau; Seruas Cluster in Beluru; Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu; Tabong Cluster in Bau; Bedayan Cluster in Serian; Rakut and Jelita Clusters in Miri; and Bukit Sekubong Cluster in Sebauh.
