New cases jump to 754 from 587 the previous day

KUCHING: Sarawak reported an increase in Covid-19 positive cases yesterday (Oct 24) registering 754 cases compared to 587 cases the previous day.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 736 of the news cases comprised categories 1 and 2, while 18 cases were in categories 3, 4 and 5.

This brings the cumulative number of cases detected in Sarawak to 236,556 to date.

Kuching registered the highest number of cases with 213, followed by Miri with 124, Sibu 78, Bintulu 59, Lawas 37, Limbang 28, Betong 22, Sri Aman 21, Mukah 20, Samarahan and Serian 16 each, Pusa 15, while Sarikei and Kanowit recorded 11 cases respectively.

Single-digit cases were reported in Bau, Simunjan, Meradong, Subis, Bukit, Mabong, Marudi, Daro, Pakan, Dalat, Kapit, Kabong, Lundu, Song, Lubok Antu, Saratok, Asajaya, Julau, Telang Usan, Matu, Belaga, Beluru and Sebauh.

SDMC said nine backlog death cases related to Covid-19 infections were also confirmed between October 16 to 23.

“The death cases consist of victims aged 35 to 89 from Sibu, Miri, Kuching, Bintulu and Samarahan divisions.

“All of the victims had history of chronic illnesses or comorbidities,” it added.

The committee also announced the end of two Covid-19 clusters in the state, namely the Pusat Kemuyang Timur cluster in Sibu and the Haidah cluster in Bintulu.
