KUCHING: The new ceiling prices for standard chicken and Grade A, B and C eggs — effective July 1 — are imposed to ease the burden of the rakyat.

In a statement, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) explained that the federal government also announced the same ceiling prices for Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak for the same period, which is two months.

“The decision by the ministers in establishing the new ceiling prices and bulk subsidy was done for the wellbeing of all Malaysians, including farmers, suppliers and retailers and consumers, especially from the B40 and M40 groups in facing this tough time, especially when the world is currently undergoing inflation.”

KPDNHEP added that some 2,200 of its staff nationwide would be mobilised to ensure supplies are enough and that wholesalers and retailers, in particular, adhere to the new ceiling prices.

The ministry warned that it would not hesitate to take action against anyone flouting the ruling based on the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Competition Act 2010.

“The ministry will continue to cooperate with the government in handling the issue of cost of living among the rakyat, holistically and thoroughly, involving all controlled items and subsidies, including cooking oil, petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, flour, sugar.

“The ministry also hoped that consumers would report any wrongdoing via WhatsApp at 019-8488000, ez-Adu app or send emails to e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my.
