KUCHING: The childcare facility, known as taska, set to open at Baitulmakmur Building II in Petra Jaya in May, was announced by Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

She stressed the importance of providing a secure atmosphere for young children, aiming to assist working parents across various industries.

“Incorporating these amenities from the planning stage is crucial for structures like Baitulmakmur Building II, which house a large number of working employees. This ensures accessibility and convenience for both staff and local residents,” she said.

During a courtesy call to her ministry from members of the Progressive Democratic Party Women Wings executive committee and the Social Welfare Council Sarawak, Fatimah detailed the services offered by the creche facility, highlighting that working mothers can register their child once their maternity leave expires.

Parents opting for private childcare facilities, such as those within buildings like Baitulmakmur II, are eligible for government support.

“An annual assistance of RM1,000 is available for those earning RM7,000 or less. However, parents are responsible for any additional expenses beyond this subsidy,” she explained.

Fatimah noted the standard operating procedure of maintaining a ratio of one instructor to two toddlers, with adjustments as children age, and stressed the importance of selecting certified childcare centres for safety.

“Ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children is paramount, and adhering to proper ratios guarantees adequate supervision and care,” she stressed.
