KUCHING: The State Health Department has identified a new cluster in Simanggang district — Taman Vistagro cluster which consists of Taman Vistagro.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Monday (Mar 29) said the index case is case 14,911, a local 62-year-old man who was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals at a private clinic.

“He was found positive through an RTK Antigen screening test on Mar 23. He was then taken to a low-risk quarantine centre (PKRC) in Sri Aman.

Confirmation screening using an rT-PCR was conducted and he was found Covid-19 positive on Mar 25.

He was likely to have been infected by some people in the community because of his frequent travels to Kuching district,” SDMC revealed.

The committee added that 17 more positive cases were detected in the cluster following further investigation and active case tracing among family members, and contact with the index case.

“A total of 179 individuals were screened of which 18 were Covid-19 positive including the index case; 46 were negative and 115 are still waiting for their results.

“All 18 cases have been referred to Sri Aman Hospital then admitted to PKRC Sri Aman for treatment and isolation,” SDMC said.

There are 33 active clusters in the state with nine of them recording additional cases.

The committee also said that Kanowit district had changed from yellow to orange after recording 25 new local cases in the last 14 days.

“This increases the number of orange districts to four. There are 11 districts which remain red, 17 are yellow, and eight remain green,” SDMC added.
