KUCHING: Sarawak now has a new Covid-19 cluster identified as Taman Putrajaya Cluster following five related positive cases reported in Bintulu.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the index case for the cluster was Case 733 which was reported on Thursday.

“The index case underwent a screening test at Bintulu Hospital after experiencing signs and symptoms of Covid-19 since Oct 1. The case also had a travel history to Perak and Kuala Lumpur from Sept 24 to 27.

“As of 12pm today (Oct 10), a total of 56 close contacts to the case were screened and four of them were found to be positive for the virus,” he said at a press conference on Covid-19 update here yesterday.

He also mentioned that two out of 56 screened were negative for the first screening and another 50 are still waiting for their results

“This makes the total number of cases in the Taman Putrajaya Cluster as five including the index case,” he said.

To date, Sarawak has two active clusters with the other being Bah Arnab Cluster (four cases).

At the same time, Uggah mentioned that Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Lawas and Lubok Antu are yellow zones at present, while 35 other districts in the state remained as green zones.

Uggah also revealed that at present, a total of 13,205 Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) students have registered for Semester 1, Session 2020/2021 (October 2020 intake).

Of the total, 1,789 students are on campus — 1,771 local students and 18 international students. Meanwhile, a total of 804 students are from the Peninsula and 128 students from Sabah and Labuan.

“Of the 1,789 students who have been on campus, a total of 123 students (from Sabah, Labuan and Peninsula) have taken rT-PCR test from the period of Sept 18 to Oct 3.

“All their results were negative,” he added.
