KUCHING: The State Health Department today announced a new cluster, namely the Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cluster was a workplace cluster involving Covid-19 transmission among trainees at the Police Training Centre at Jalan Puncak Borneo here.

“This cluster was detected when a trainee was screened through screening of symptomatic individuals at Kota Sentosa Health Clinic here on Apr 9.

“The trainee started to have symptoms such as fever on Apr 8 and was detected positive on Apr 12,” it said.

According to the committee, the trainee returned from Perlis (his hometown) on Nov 22 last year and underwent quarantine upon arrival at the training centre.

“The Covid-19 transmission among the trainees happened through close contact and lack of social distancing among them who stay in the platoon dormitories in a large number,” it added.

Active case detections (ACDs) and screenings of all close contacts and fellow trainees were carried out, said SDMC.

“As of Apr 13, out of the 111 individuals who were screened, 61 tested positive including the index case while 50 were negative.

“All positive cases in this cluster were referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and have been admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Kuching for isolation and further treatment,” it said.

Meanwhile, the committee declared the end of two clusters, namely the Pasai Cluster in Sibu and the Buloh Cluster in Selangau after no new cases were detected in the past 28 days.

“There are 48 active Covid-19 clusters in the state as of today. Of the total, 12 clusters recorded new cases while there were no reports of new cases in the other 36 clusters,” it said.

The committee also revealed that the Saratok district had changed from orange to red status.  With that, there are now 15 red districts in the state.

“Sixty-one local infection cases were recorded in the last two weeks.

“There are four orange districts and 16 yellow districts. Only five districts remain green,” said SDMC.

The green districts are Telang Usan, Lundu, Pusa, Simunjan and Kabong.
