KUCHING: A new contractor will be appointed for the upgrading of the Jalan Baru Matang, Phase 2 project, which has been delayed.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman acknowledged that the project has caused difficulties for road users.

“I am doing my best to put pressure on the government to restart the project as soon as possible,” he said in response to a Facebook post today.

He said the project was one of the sick projects, and thus he had always got in touch with the Ministry of Infrastructure Sarawak and Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak to get feedback on solutions for the project.

“The solution is first to terminate the existing contractors which has already been done.

“Secondly, a study on what was the problem before this and what should be done to avoid similar problems from happening again, has also been done.

“A competent contractor has also been identified and discussion was also held with them, and once they are appointed, they must immediately carry out the work,” he said.

Fazzrudin said all these processes took some time with now all that remains is for the contractor to be appointed.

“Hopefully, everything will be smooth to ensure the safety and comfort of road users,” he said.
