KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster named the Mador Cluster has been identified by the State Health Department.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Saturday (Jan 2) said that this cluster involved Meradong and Sibu District.

It said the index case for this cluster was Case 1,115 that were detected on Dec 30 as a result of the Covid-19 entry screening upon returning from Peninsular Malaysia.

SDMC said the number of positive cases involving this cluster to date is eight persons including the index cases.

It said a total of 322 individuals have been screened, with eight testing positive, 201 negative and another 113 were still waiting for test result.

SDMC said of the eight cases in the Mador Cluster, four new cases were reported on Jan 2.

The committee informed that the positive case rate for this cluster is 2.49 percent.

SDMC also said as of Jan 2 afternoon, all the eight cases are still receiving treatment at the hospital isolation ward and are all in stable conditions.

It added no deaths involving this cluster were reported.
