KUCHING: State Reform Party (STAR) president Lina Soo viewed the drafting of a new deal to replace Malaysia Agreement 1963 as a grey area for Sarawak. She was tight-lipped over her position on the matter as she thought it would confuse the people.

“Just let it be. I don’t think there is a need for my comment on the topic,” she told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.

Lina quashed calls from other parties wanting a new deal saying that the existing agreement is null and void.

“No court has declared that the departure of Singapore has invalidated our agreement on the federation,” she said, referring to MA63 signed by Malaya, Sarawak, Sabah and Singapore.

She opined that for the new deal to be charted, the existing deal has to be terminated.

Last Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing called for Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya to chart a new deal after the existing agreement became invalid due to the secession of Singapore in 1965.
