KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will indeed field new faces in the 15th General Election (GE15), says vice-president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Asajaya assemblyman said this after the press conference for the Sarawak Heritage, Arts and Culture Facilitation Fund here today.

“In my opinion, there must be a new face in every election or else it would mean that we are static, without any changes.

“When a single election is held, those who win will remain for five years and if there is no change for five years, change will not happen and I believe even the voters would not be happy about this.”

The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts used the previous Sarawak polls as an example, saying that there were a few faces fielded by the party.

“Back in the 12th Sarawak Election last December, there were a lot of young candidates and probably due to that fact, the voters feel that the parties that are contesting are in line with their aspirations.”

On April 24, PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg revealed that the party was expected to field several new faces in GE15.

This followed reports that some of the party’s MPs had expressed that it was time for them to make way for new faces.
