KUCHING: The crocodile pond in Kampung Paya Mebi has been converted from a sand dredging site to a fishing pond.

This is the result of the efforts of the Lubok Buaya Inland Fishermen Association of Kampung Paya Mebi.

Shamsudin Unai, advisor of the association, said the initiative to upgrade the jetty area was proposed on March 14 and it is now nearing completion.

“Our goal is to make this crocodile pond a fishing focal point, and it has already attracted many anglers from around Kuching,” he said on Tuesday (May 11) in an interview.

Among the fishes found there are semah, kaloi, tilapia, patin, baung, lampam java, belida as well as lobsters, Shamsudin said, adding that people can come to fish here every day for free.

He added that in addition to fishing, members of the public can enjoy the scenery at the jetty.

“People can enjoy the beautiful scenery by the river while fishing, particularly when the sun goes down,” he said.
