KUCHING: Sarawak hopes that the new federal government will continue to help the state in terms of development.

This was Utilities (Water Supply) Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi’s comment on Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin’s appointment as the eighth prime minister.

“His appointment has resolved the political turmoil that hit the country this week.

“We also hope the federal government’s new leadership can continue to help Sarawak in terms of its development,” he said adding that Sarawak still lags behind in basic amenities.

He further added that it is not just basic amenities but, Sarawak also needs funds to continue developing schools throughout the state.

Abdul Rahman said he holds firmly to the decision taken by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“What we want is that the interests of Sarawakians continue to be a priority (to them).

“We are well aware that Muhyiddin, under the administration of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, previously was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to being Minister of Education and the Home Affairs Minister,” he said.
