MIRI: Construction work on the new health clinic next to the existing Miri Hospital is expected to be completed by next April.

According to Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, this new health clinic would replace the old one — previously known as Miri Polyclinic — which is unable to cater to the needs of the people in Miri City.

“Outpatients have to queue up early in the morning to get their number for their turn to receive treatment or to collect their medication.

“A new and bigger health clinic is long overdue,” he said after visiting the construction site for the new health clinic on Friday.

Lee has previously brought up the need for a new health clinic and the proposal was approved in 2016 and earthworks began in 2017/2018.

The project’s contract sum was RM26,306,003.49.

During the visit, Lee was accompanied by Acting Miri resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, Miri Divisional Health officer Dr P. Raviwharmman Packierisamy and Public Works Department (JKR) Northern Regional Office regional manager Ir Teo Nguong Leong.

They were briefed on the progress of the project at the site by a contractor.

As of March 25, the project is 40 percent completed against the scheduled 44 percent and Lee hoped that the contractor would be able to catch up and complete the project as scheduled.
