New high of 2,992 cases but most are mild

KUCHING: Sarawak has recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases with 2,992 cases on Thursday (Sept 2), bringing the cumulative figure to 121,964 cases to date.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) also revealed that 2,986 (99.8 percent) of the cases are Category 1 and Category 2.

“However, the state also recorded one Category 3 case, two Category 4 cases and three Category 5 cases.

“Once again, Kuching district tops the table with 1,342 cases recorded, followed by Sibu (282), Samarahan (147), Lundu (134), Betong (117), Bintulu (110), Lubok Antu (105), Belaga (93), Pusa (77), Simunjan (72), Bau (71), Sri Aman (64), Serian (50), Subis (40) and Bukit Mabong (38).

“Both Asajaya and Miri recorded 31 cases respectively, Kapit (29), Tatau (27), Song (25), Meradong (23), Sarikei (15), while Kanowit and Pakan each recorded 11 cases,” said the committee.

Selangau reported 10 cases, Mukah and Julau each recorded nine cases, Saratok, Sebauh and Tebedu each recorded four cases. There were two cases in Lawas while Kabong, Dalat, Beluru, Marudi and Telang Usan recorded one case respectively.

SDMC also reported 968 new recoveries and discharge from respective hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRC).

This brings to 93,123 cases or 76.35 percent of patients who have recovered from the virus and discharged. There are however still 28,091 active cases statewide.
