Huju Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong

KUCHING: A new hospital is needed to accommodate the growing number of patients in Hulu Rajang, which can no longer be served by Kapit Hospital.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said the new hospital needed to be constructed in Sg Asap, Apo Kayan in Belaga.

“The size of Kapit Hospital is not able to accommodate the patients who are increasing by the day. Besides that, health clinics in Ng Mujong, Ng Gaat and Sg Tunoh, along with those in Tubau and Ng Merit need to be upgraded,” he said.

He said this when debating on the Royal Address in Parliament on Thursday yesterday.

Ugak, who is also National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) chairman, said in view of Covid-19, all health enforcement agencies must perform scheduled inspections.

“This is to ensure foreign workers working in the industry sector abide by the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the authorities. The industry also can get advice from Niosh to ensure the safety and health of their employees is at an optimal level.

“This is because, all of us want the country to be free of Covid-19 completely,” he said.

On another development, Ugak also urged the Finance Ministry to discuss with Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) or Agrobank for a new branch to be opened in Sg Asap, Apo Koyan and another one in Belaga.

“This is to serve the needs of 50,000 dwellers in the area. I also ask that a mobile bank be set up to ease the transactions of the dwellers when managing their finances.

“I would also like to ask for an Internal Revenue Board (LHDN) to be placed in Kapit, this will ease the business of rural dwellers and contractors who are in the rural area,” he said.
