KUCHING: A new alternative route involving the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway to the Stutong area was opened for road users on January 6 to avoid unusual traffic jams like before.
Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said that the matter is also to provide a temporary route to allow road users from Kota Samarahan to BDC or the airport without going through the TT3 roundabout which is undergoing upgrading work.
“So with such an alternative, road users can exit to Jalan Stutong via Lorong Stutong 20.
“However, this route is only limited to light vehicles such as motorbikes, cars and vans so that the road structure will not be damaged due to the movement of heavy vehicles, especially those which are 5 tonnes and above,” she said.
She shared this through a post on her official Facebook page, recently.
Rubiah who is also the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, took some time to inspect the area of the alternative route as she also had a joint working visit with the Sarawak Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) earlier.
In the meantime, Rubiah also expressed her appreciation to all parties involved, especially the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Ir. Aidel Lariwoo, Public Works Department (PWD), Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), PDRM and all related agencies.
“This is because they have tried to ensure that this route is established in order to provide some relief to the problem of unusual traffic congestion recently,” she pointed out.
On last January 3, there was an unusual traffic jam involving the flow of traffic in the Kota Samarahan-Kuching area, resulting in some civilians being stuck for about seven hours.
The matter is said to be caused by the work to upgrade the roundabouts of the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway route.
