MUKAH: The new Mukah Airport will see an increase in air network as well as open up new connections along the coastal area.

Located about seven kilometres from the town of Mukah, it will cater to the needs of larger ATR aircraft.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the completed project was handed over by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak Central Region manager Anding Unchi to Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad senior operations executive Abang Ya’kub Abang Joss, who was representing the Malaysian Transport Ministry.

The new airport construction project includes a terminal building, runway, management office, facilities for waiting passengers, Malaysian Civil Aviation Office, VIP/VVIP building, Category 5 Airport Fire and Rescue Service building, quarters and a meteorological station.

The project commenced in August 2017 and was completed this month.

With the completion of the project, the people here now have A modern airport which replaced the old short take-off and landing airport (STOLport).
