KUCHING: Another Kota Padawan Recreation Park will be opened to the public in mid-September, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) said.

MPP Councillor Shirley Pui said the recreation park, under the Projek Rakyat initiative, is to be called ‘Railway Park’.

Rizqiy Engineering manager Iskandar Ibrahim handed over the completion document to Pui yesterday (Sept 14) at Kota Padawan.

Pui said the construction company was granted the project on Oct 28 last year at a total cost of RM1.5 million.

“The project, which was set to be completed on July 2021, within six months of acceptance, was delayed due to the inconsistent implementation of the movement control orders.

The entire construction was completed on August 13,” she said.

The council added that Railway Park was established as a remembrance of Kota Padawan as the railroad that connected Brooke Shipyard to 10th Mile in the Brooke Era.

Aside from serving as a historical icon, the park will also provide the community with facilities and public spaces to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
