The Kampung Meritam Surau which is expected to be completed by the end of September.

KUCHING: The people of Kampung Meritam, Limbang will enjoy a new surau by the end of September, Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said.

He said works to complete the building was delayed following the movement control order (MCO) imposed earlier this year and that the original completion date for the RM350,000 Surau Kampung Meritam project was on August 30.

“We are thankful that the people of Kampung Meritam which houses 60 families will now get a new surau which will accommodate 70 to 80 people,” he said when met during his visit to the project site in Limbang last Saturday.

On the other rural transformation programme (RTP) projects in the constituency, Dr Abdul Rahman said most of them were delayed due to the MCO, however adding that there are no ‘sick’ projects for the year 2019 to 2020.

He said implementing agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR), Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), and the Limbang District Council (MDL) will continue to monitor the progress of the projects.

Dr Abdul Rahman said for 2020, the awarding of 24 RTP projects to contractors will subject to a vote draw by September

“The RTP projects are expected to be completed within three to six months depending on project type and cost,” he said, adding that while some of the projects will extend until early 2021, the most important thing is that it is being started.

Also present were Limbang Deputy Resident Sebi Abang, Limbang JKR officer Faznur Syakhira Zulkifli, and Kampung Meritam community leader Mahmud Gampal.
