KUCHING: A newborn baby girl was discovered by the public at Lorong 19 Cahaya Damai, Bandar Baru Samariang this morning.
Based on numerous videos that went viral on social media, it showed the infant still with the umbilical cord attached.
The baby was promptly rescued by residents from the bushes and an elderly woman could be seen wrapping the baby in a towel.
Shortly after, she brought the baby to an eatery nearby where other concerned residents helped to clean her up and made her more comfortable with appropriate clothes.
The baby was handed over to paramedics to be taken to the hospital.
It is believed that the baby was recovered from a plastic bag after the residents heard her cries.
Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said an official statement will be released soon.
