MIRI : More than 600 residents of Long Tebangan, a 50-door Kayan longhouse at Sungai Akah, are happy that  the road to their homes has been tarred.

Long Tebangan is  about seven hours’ drive by road from Miri City.

The newly tarred 150-metre road costing about RM150,000 was completed in  July this year and implemented under the Rural Transformation Programme project (RTP).

On Tuesday,   Telang Usan State Assemblyman, Dennis Ngau   officiated at the launching of the newly tarred   road.

Also present at the launching ceremony was the headman of Long Tebangan,  TK Jok Emang.

Dennis was warmly welcomed by the villagers on arrival at the longhouse. In his opening speech, the Assemblyman said the Sarawak government would continue its rural development agenda.

“This  assurance was given by our Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun  Openg  when he took over the state leadership, echoing the late Chief Minister, Tok Nan’s vision and mission to focus  on rural development.

“The hard and solid  proof  of this strategic mission is  the  yearly  allocation of RM5 milions  to each Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)  member of the State Legislative Assembly  since 2016,”  he added.

Dennis said, with that   allocation,  as the people’s representative from the ruling party, he could approve the amenity requests from his constituents. Meanwhile, the headman of Long Tebangan,  TK Jok Emang    conveyed his people’s  thanks to   Dennis.

“We can really see  he has done a lot for our village and the people. He is a committed  and hard working leader who mixes well with us. As a result, he understands our needs,”  he added.

The headman also urged his people  to continue   supporting  Dennis  so that he could  bring their   needs to the top leaders in the state.
