BAU: Some 1,000 Christians from various churches and denominations took to the street to usher the coming Christmas celebration with a parade here on Saturday.

The joyful revellers had initially gathered at the Petra Methodist Church compound from where the parade commenced.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep flagged off the event, which was organised for its third consecutive year.

He had introduced the parade when he first became the newly-elected representative for Tasik Biru in 2016.

Henry said the parade would continue to be an annual event in Bau to usher in the Christmas season.

He praised the local Borneo Evangelical Church (VEM), Chinese Methodist Church and Roman Catholic Church for their active participation in the parade.

The parade commenced from the compound of the Methodist Church at 6.30pm, passed through the town centre and ended at Lobuh Bau.

Throughout the parade, choir groups from the different churches took turn to sing Christmas songs.
