KUCHING: A total of 115 students of Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak (IKMAS) yesterday received their scrolls during the institute’s 16th Convocation Ceremony held at Sarawak Islamic Council Hall, Sarawak Islamic Complex here.
The ceremony was graced by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religion), Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof. The students graduated with Diploma of Islamic Studies and Dakwah; they were the most number of IKMAS’ graduates since 2003.
“As Islamic practitioners, we should prioritise the importance of peace and tolerance among each other. “Islam is important not only to the adults but also the young children. We must cultivate an interest among young children for Islam,” said Taib. He added the people of Sarawak were now enjoying peace because of the high tolerance and understanding among each other, particularly with regard to religion and culture.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the students, lecturers, the management as well as their parents for their support and cooperation in making this ceremony a success,” said the Head of State. At the convocation ceremony, he also presented four outstanding awards, namely, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Award , Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) Director General Award, Sarawak Islamic Council Award and Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak (IKMAS) Award.
The recipients were Siti Nur Hamizah Bt Hamid (the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Award) , Hasbul lah Ibrahim (Malaysian Islamic Development Department ( Jakim) Director General Award), Mohammad Sahzfiq Sahmat (Sarawak Islamic Council Awa rd) and Mohd Ruzaini Mejeni@Majoni (Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak (IKMAS) Award).
