1402 security personnel to safeguard BCCK during WIEF

KUCHING: A total of 1402 officers and police personnel of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would be carrying out their duties and responsibilities to ensure the safety and smoothness of traffic flow of the 13th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).

According to State Pol ice Commissioner, Datuk Amer Awal, the forum which will be held from November 21 until November 23, 2017 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), will be attended by the Prime Minister, Datuk Ser i Najib Tun Razak, President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and many others.

“The forum is an international standard forum which will be attended by a total of 2300 delegations from inside and outside of Malaysia and we will use every asset and human resources to ensure the security of the forum,” he said during a press conference at BCCK yesterday.

He added that the pol ice will also focusing on the hotel accommodat ion of the delegates such as at Pullman Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel and Hilton Hotel. “Our police will be on duty for 5 nights and 6 days which means we will be on duty earlier at BCCK and at the hotels,” he said.

He pointed out that there will be also 20 personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) that will assist in training for the handling of scanner machine and 30 personnel from Special Action Unit of Bukit Aman.

“There will be also a total of 336 marine police that will ensure the safety of BCCK, while we will also have the air unit to monitor the safety from air space with helicopters,” he mentioned. He said to ensure a neat supervision; there will be walkthrough metal detectors, luggage x-ray machines and also vehicle checks. No firearms are allowed inside the forum venue.

“Up until today, there are no any threats received, but we are serious in ensuring the forum is safe and successful,” he added. He said among the duty of police during the forum are such as traffic control at the conference and accommodation area, VIPs escor ts and also safet y investigations.

“We also hope that the public will give full cooperation with the police and be patient when facing the traffic flow that will be quite busy later during the forum,” he concluded.
