SRI AMAN: Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP ) Simanggang branch will be holding a commemoration ceremony at Taman Tebingan Sungai, Batang Lupar River here tomorrow in conjunction with the first death anniversary of former Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Satem.

“The branch is expecting 150 to 300 residents to participate in this memorable programme,” said its spokesperson, Kueh Aik Seng. The Assistant Minister of Community Well Being, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis will launch the ceremony at 6.30pm.

Kueh said the event was very important so that the people of Sarawak would continue to appreciate the contributions made by Adenan, fondly known as Tok Nan. The former Chief Minister passed away on January 11, 2017 after suffering from a heart disease.

“He had contributed a lot to the development of the state and will always be remembered by all the people, especially those in Sarawak. “He was very popular among the people for claiming Sarawak’s rights from the federal government.

“Even when he was the Chief Minister, Tok Nan was seen to be fair in implementing development programmes for the people of the state including the Chinese. “That is why his services are not only remembered by the Bumiputeras but also the Chinese,” said Kueh. He hoped Tok Nan’s successor, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg could continue the struggle of Tok Nan to further develop the state.
