150 ARMY, POLICE RETIREES HONOURED

KUCHING: 75 army retirees received the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) while 75 police retirees yesterday morning received the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) from the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud  at Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak in Petra Jaya here.

The army and police retirees were awarded the medals for their contributions in safeguarding the country’s peace in conunction with the state-level Warriors’ Day celebration.

Former Sarawak Police Deputy Commissioner, Dato’  Dr Chai Khin Chung, led the list of PJPN recipients. Among the recipients were four former Senior Assistant Commissioners of Police, namely, SAC Dato’ Abdul Hamid Bulat, SAC Dato’ Benjamin Hasbie, SAC Dato’ Clarence Rorote Sagon and SAC Dato’ Gingkoi Seman Pancras, former Bukit Aman Traffic  Division chief.

The other recipients included nine  former Police Superintendents, seven former Deputy Police Superintendents, three former Assistant Police Superintendents, one former Chief Inspector, six former  Sub-Inspectors, 10 former Sergeant Majors, 10 former Sergeants, 10 former Corporals and five former Lance Corporals.

Six police retirees who had passed away were represented by their respective family members at the investiture ceremony.

Meanwhile, first to receive the PJM was  Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Unyat Dolah,  formerly  of the Royal Malaysian Navy. He was followed by Captain (Retired) Sahari Ismail, and Lieutenant (Retired) George Anggat.

The other recipients included five former Warrant Officers One, nine former Warrant Officers Two, five former  Staff Sergeants, 15 former Sergeants, 16 former Corporals, 12 former Lance Corporals, four

former Rangers, a former Trooper and a former Gunner.

Meanwhile, four army retirees who had passed away were represented by their respective family members at the investiture ceremony.

Also present at the investiture ceremony were wife of the Head of State, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Ragad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Malaysian Armed Forces Eastern Field Command Commander, Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Zaki Haji Mokhtar, First Division Infantry Commander, Datuk Stephen Mundaw and Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Amer Awal.
