150 students attend Toastmasters Youth Leadership Camp

SIBU: One hundred and fifty secondary school students are taking part in the three-day Toastmasters Youth Leadership Camp 2017 organised by the Swan City Toastmasters Club (SCTC) at Methodist Centennial Park here.

Second Minister of Finance Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh called on the young generation to do their utmost in life in order to become useful individuals in the world.

He said in whatever they do, they should do it with full dedication and total commitment.

“They should also be persistent, never afraid of failure and should treat it as a lesson. And if they persist, they would succeed one day.

“They should also be consistent in their effort. Consistency and continuation nowadays have to be accompanied by innovative and creativity which will help to double, treble or even quadruple the performance,” said Wong when speaking at the opening ceremony of the camp at the at Methodist Centennial Park here, yesterday.

The three-day camp, themed ‘Start With Me’ is being held for the 14th consecutive year.

SCTC president Annette Hu and organising chairman Dr Clement Chen were among those present.

Wong, who is also the Bawang Assan State Assemblyman, advised the young generation to have self esteem to live in, a faith to live by and to remember their roots.

“Along the way during their formative year or even their working life, they should have confidennce to face life and a mission in order to become successful persosn,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Dr Chen said the event was aimed to expose the participants to new surrounding, away from their families and to meet new friends from other schools.

Besides that, he said, it was also to expose and unearth their potential with which they could acquire leadership skills to become better persons.
He also expressed his gratitude to Wong for his encouragement and financial support for the camp.
