KUCHING: The official website of the 18th Malaysian Forestry Conference (MFC) Sarawak was launched by Director of Sarawak Forest Department Mr. Hamden Mohammad at Wisma Sumber Alam, Petra Jaya Kuching yesterday.

Also present were Deputy General Manager of Sarawak Forestry Corporation Oswald Briken Tisen and Deputy Director of Sarawak Forest Department Jack Liam.

The first Malaysian Forestry Conference was held in 1996 and since then state forestry agency or corporation from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak took turns   to organise the conference.

To date, the Sarawak Forestry Department has hosted the conference for six times including this year’s 18th MFC to be held at Imperial Hotel, Kuching from 31 July to 2 August, 2018.

The theme for this year’s MFC is “Advancing Sustainable Forestry Through Digitalization and Technology” which will boost the use of technology in managing sustainable forests in Malaysia.

“The conference will be a platform to gather foresters and members who are involved with forestry or nature to discuss any situation about forestry,” Hamden said at a press conference yesterday.

He added that the conference will also be open to those involved with the forestry department to join in the discussion.

A total of 97 papers including 24 presentations will be presented at the conference. An exhibition on the revolution of forestry technology in Sarawak will also be held during the conference.
