KUCHING: A total of 19 talented athletes will represent the Sarawak contingent to face the national level Inter-School Muaythai Closed Championship 2018 at Tan Sri Hamzah Arena, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur scheduled from April 5 to 8.
All the athletes are from secondary schools and clubs from several divisions in the state.
The Muaythai Association of Sarawak president (PMNS), Haji Jumaat Ibrahim said athletes who participate in the tournament have being identified for their talents.
“What we expect these athletes to use the opportunity to showcase their real potentials. The four-day tournament is an early avenue by the association to select athletes for the national youth squads, the SEA Games 2019 programme, the Youth programme and the International Elite 2018/2019 (Pro/Amateur),” said Jumaat.
The handing over of State flag to the Muaythai contingent was officiated by Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Chief Executive Officer and Director of Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) Dr Ong Kong Swee at his office, here, earlier this week.
In his brief message, Dr Ong hoped the athletes would give their best performances besides trying to create a surprise in the tournament. By  Faizal Bujang
