MUKAH: A resident of Kampung Tellian Laut here was surprised when he saw a king cobra hiding behind a pile of boards in a hut behind the kitchen of his house, yesterday.

Yazir Musta, 40, said when he attempted to take a few pieces of board to repair his kitchen he was surprised to see a king cobra taking refuge in the pile of boards.

He then called the Civil Defence Force (APM) to help catch the snake.

“I also sought help from my neighbours before I ran to the pile of boards while waiting for APM personnel to arrive. At first I thought the snake was a rubber tube of a bicycle but was taken aback when the king cobra raised its head and ready to strike,” he said.

An officer of the Mukah Civil Defence Force,  Mohamad Noor Ini said they received a call from Yazir and quickly dispatched four personnel who rushed to the scene in a vehicle.

The APM members managed to catch the snake, a king cobra weighing six kilogrammes and 2.5 metres long.

Mohamad Noor said any emergency happening here, members of the public may call APM hotline 084-872814.

“Anyone keen to become an APM volunteer may take the application form at Mukah APM office on weekdays,” he said.
