KOTA SAMARAHAN: 200 civil servants attended the TN50: Fast Forwarding Innovation and Creativity Forum held at INTAN Campus yesterday.

The speaker of the forum, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato Sri Nancy Shukri touched on the different issues such as effective communication, networking, teamwork and empowerment in the civil service.

At a press conference held after the forum, Nancy said that she was happy to hear some of the aspirations of the civil servants during the session.

“Many Sarawakians want the state to have a better land transport  system.

“Some public buses are in poor conditions with fewer bus stops and poor timing. However, the state government is currently addressing this via the State Bus Service Transformation (SBST).

“Many of them also hope that the   traffic congestion in Kuching and  Kota Samarahan can be solved,” said Nancy.

Some   participants felt that the chips in Identification Cards should work more efficiently and that more civil workers should be more IT-savvy.

They also wanted more infrastructure to be disabled friendly, innovation and creativity to be introduced in the education system and  heritage to be sustained as the state progressed.

“These are all the aspirations that we can tackle even before 2050 and I am glad that Sarawakians are forward minded,” said Nancy.

At the same time, she added that she would also be re-tabling the e-hailing issue in the Dewan Rakyat in July to regulate services such as Grabcar and Uber.

“We have engaged with taxi operators constantly over the past few months. Although they are still passive on the matter, we will continue to engage them.

“Taxi operators are also heading into the direction of e-hailing and therefore, in order for them to do so, we need to regulate the laws,” said Nancy.
