KAPIT : Some 22 students from Kapit have been selected to further their studies at the various MRSM (MARA Junior Science College) campuses throughout the state for this year’s Form One intake. At hand to present the offer letters was Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Malaysia (KKLW) 1, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Congratulating the students for their opportunity to further their study at MRSM, Nanta said that among the criteria to apply to study at MRSM is straight As in UPSR. “However, the entry qualification for rural students in Sarawak is a little bit lenient, as those with 4 As or 3 As and 2 Bs were also eligible to apply.

This is an opportunity given to bright students from rural constituencies to study at MRSM”. “This is one of the government’s effort through MARA to help Bumiputera students to attend quality education at various MRSM.

I am very happy now that many students are able to further their studies at MRSM. “The parents understand the concept of education opportunity offered by MARA through MRSM and university to studies to acquire academic and skill qualifications. “The advantages of studying at MARA is that it is free so the parents saved a lot of money.

On the other hand, if the students borrowed money from PTPPN (study loan), one got to pay back upon graduation”, explained Nanta when officiating at the handing over of the offer letters to the eligible students held at Rumah Benggau anak Andah, Nanga Sut, Baleh here recently.

Desmond Paul, a father of one of the fortunate students thanked the government for giving his daughter an opportunity to study at MRSM. He is confident that the children would perform well because they scored good results in UPSR.

Meanwhile Sibu District MARA officer, Mohd Razib Mohd Tahir pointed out that for the year 2018 there are some twenty two students (Lepasan UPSR) from Kapit selected to further their studies at various MRSM in Sarawak at Mukah, Betong or Kuching respectively.
