23 illegal gambling raids conducted last week

KUCHING: The state police have intensified raids against illegal gambling, especially those selling lotteries illegally at public places in the state.

In the past week, from 3 to 9 April, the state police conducted 23 raids successfully on illegal gambling in the state which resulted in the arrest of 34 people. 21 of the raids were against the sale of illegal 4D. The focus of the raids was in the Padawan district.

The raids were conducted by teams from CID HQ and district CIDs as follows:- CID HQ – 5 raids (raids conducted in Padawan), CID Padawan-10 raids, CID Limbang-2 raids,CID Kuching-1 raid, CID Sibu- 1raid, CID Miri-1 raid, CID Sarikei -1 raid, CID Serian-1 raid and CID Kota Samarahan-1 raid.

The 21 illegal 4D raids resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM7,327. Mobile phones, portable printers, calculators and stationeries were also seized. 15 of the raids were conducted in Padawan district.

Apart from illegal 4D, raids were also conducted against illegal gambling of ‘Holo’ in public places in Sibu and Limbang which resulted in the arrest of 9 individuals.

Of the 34 arrestees, 24 are males while the rest are females.

They are aged between 15 and 23 years.

Sixteen raids were conducted at public places, mostly at the five-foot ways. Six raids were at shops and one at a coffee shop.

All the arrestees are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act, 1953.

Raids and operations against illegal gambling in the state will continue.
