KUCHING: Do you fancy a 24- carat (24k) gold ice cream? It is available at the Kuching Food Festival in Padungan here. 27-year-old ent repreneur, Dixon Teo came out with the idea of selling the gold leaf ice cream after he was inspired by Japan which originally started the idea.

“We are selling this ice cream at a much cheaper price because we want to bring happiness to the people so they can try it out,” he told the New Sarawak Tribune. Teo said in other countries, the gold leaf coated ice cream would cost RM50 or more.

“This gold is 98 percent pure. It is different from the gold in normal gold jewellery. It does not have mixture of metals which are toxic and dangerous to consume. “On the black ice cream, it is called coconut ash. It derived its black colour from activated charcoal.”

Teo also said the Japanese believed consuming gold could help to maintain youthfulness and prolong the life span.

Other health benefits included boosting the blood circulation, accelerating metabolism, regenerating the cells and acting as an antioxidant.

“Activated charcoal also helps in anti aging, teeth whitening, and digestion, and reduces high cholesterol,” he said. The 24k gold charcoal ice cream is being sold at RM18. Without the gold leaf, it is sold at RM8.
