SIBU: Acting on a public tip-off, an illegal logging operation at Sungai Anak, Sebelak, Roban had been foiled by a joint enforcement team comprising officers from Sibu Regional Office of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and police personnel from District Police Station Roban last Saturday.
This was disclosed in a SFC statement explaining that the enforcers had found a total of 250 pieces of logs, believed to have been illegally extracted from a nearby forest. None of the logs bear any official markings and all were subsequently detained upon confirming that no licence to extract timber has been issued at the area.
A statement was also recorded from a member of the local community who was believed to have been involved with the illegal activity. A report on the raid had been lodged at Roban Police Station. The case had been handed over to Forest Department for further investigation and disposal.
