KUCHING: 250 poor and needy people yesterday received sacrificial meat for Hari Raya Aidiladha during the ‘Qurban Perdana’ (slaughtering of animals in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha) ceremony here.
Eleven buffaloes were sacrificed during the event held at the Darulhana Mosque. Five of the buffaloes were donated by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Four more buffaloes were donated by the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar while the rest were donated by members of the public.
Johari and his wife, Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang were present to grace the ceremony.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that Phase One of the Darulhana project involving Blocks 1A and 2A had begun.
“It will take two years and involves three villages including Kampung Panglima Seman, Kampung Pulo Ulu and Kampung Semarang.
“This covers a total of 504 heads of houses (KIR) and they will be compensated according to the prices of their land to enable them to buy the new houses in the Darulhana Resettlement,” added Rahman.
He also pointed out that the project would take about 12 to 15 years to be completed.
2,607 KIR would be moved from the current Kampung Seberang Hilir which comprised 12 villages.
“From the 2,607 KIRs, there are also about 4,000 extended family members who will receive
houses that will not require any of them to have debts,” Rahman added.
Also present was the Chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datu Misnu Taha.
