KUCHING: Sarawak CID Head, SAC Dennis Leong said while the majority of the people are enjoying the Soccer World Cup 2018, there is always a group who would take advantage of the situation by turning it into a gambling game.

Leong said the police will not tolerate football gambling and vowed to flush out bookies.

So far, the CID Sarawak, he said, is working hard to uncover these bookies as police swung into action and nabbed three men in Simunjan, hear here on Monday evening.

He said the men aged between 35 and 46 were arrested at about 6.30 pm in two locations at the New Simunjan Bazaar by a police team from D7 IPK Sarawak.

The police had earlier received information on the betting. A number of betting slips and cash amounting RM2,026 were also seized from the suspects.

The trio would be investigated under Section 6 (3) of the Betting Act 1953.

Leong called on those with information on bookies to alert the police. He assured that informers would be kept confidential.
