KUCHING: Government agencies and private organisations set up 30 booths to display their health products and also free health services at an exhibition organised in conjunction with the World Pharmacist Day celebration yesterday.

The programme, the first to be held here, was jointly organised by the Pharmaceutical Service Division of the Sarawak Health Department and Sarawak Pharmaceutical Society. According to the State Health Deputy Director, Abu Hassan Alshaari Abd Jabar, who represented the State Health Director, Jamilah Hisham at the event, pharmacists needed to work side by side with all the other medical professionals as part of the health care professionals in the country.

“Through cooperation, the health professionals will and can ensure the provision of the best medical service and healthcare to the people of Sarawak as well as the citizens of Malaysia,” said Abu in his speech when launching the World Pharmacist Day 2017 held at CityONE Megamall here yesterday.

“In the medical field, especially in the government sector, there is the separation of roles by all the different professionals, yet there exists an amazing cooperative interdependence and harmony among the professionals.

“This has provided Malaysia with one of the best healthcare systems in the world,” he added. World Pharmacist Day was the brainchild of the International Pharmaceutical Federation at the 2009 Council meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, during the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) congress.

The aim of the day is to bring attention to pharmacies the positive benefits they offer when it comes to health. Besides that, it also encourages activities that promote and advocate the role of pharmacists in improving health.
