30 teams compete in marhaban competition

KUCHING: The team Suara Kilauan Majma from Kuching emerged as the champions in the men’s category of the Sarawak Open Marhaban Zikir Competition 2018 organised by Sarawak National Malays Association (PKMS) yesterday.

They took home RM1,500 cash, a trophy and the Quran.

In second place was Surau Baru Asajaya from Asajaya, Samarahan who went home with RM1,000 cash and third place was Surau Darul Hamra B from Balai Bomba Petra Jaya, Kuching with RM750 cash; both teams also walked away with a trophy and the Quran, each.

As for the women’s category, Wawasan Semariang Batu from Semariang Batu, Kuching grabbed hold of first prize which consisted of RM1,500 cash, a trophy and the Quran.

Second place was secured by Nur Syuhadah from Kampung Tabuan Hilir Kuching with RM1,000 cash and Nur Hikmah from Kampung Pelanduk Laut, Sadong Jaya secured third place with RM750 cash; both also took home a trophy and the Quran, each.

A total of 30 teams comprising of 16 men’s teams and 14 women’s teams from Kuching, Samarahan, Gedong and Simunjan took part in the two-day competition.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated the competition’s closing ceremony at the CIDB Sarawak Convention Centre at Jalan Sultan Tengah here yesterday and also gave away the prizes.
