30,000 expected at Debak Fest 2018

DEBAK: This town is expected to welcome about 30,000 people comprising both locals and visitors during the Debak Fest 2018 themed ‘Rami Meno Kito’ to be held from 2-11 November at Riveria Sport Centre (RSC) here.

The number is targeted by Saribas Assemblyman, Mohammad Razi Sitam who believed it can be achieved based on a previous Debak Fests. He added that many interesting activities will be held for the next 10 days starting today (Friday).

“Expected to steal the limelight is a stage concert featuring popular local artistes namely Bandi Amuk, Shidee Data, Zaleha Hamid, Harry Khalifah, Fiza, Connie Francis, Lucy M, Linda, Ricky El and an Indonesian singer, Tegar.

“Other programmes to be held include the fifth edition of Saribas Mountain Bike (MTB), Saribas Sepak Takraw Open Championship, sales of agriculture produces, exhibition and demonstrations by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Saribas Karaoke, Debak Idol, Saribas Iban Song competition, bermukun competition, tug-of-war, Debak Kitchen, fishing competition, archery competition and more,” Razi said when met yesterday.

According to him, the Debak Fest is the largest annual event of the Saribas constituency which promotes entrepreneurship and culture.

“It aims to enhance the people’s involvement in entrepreneurship, especially by the youths and promoting local products.

“I hope the organising of this festival will bring more economic opportunities to the local people to compete equally with other entrepreneurs,” he said.

Razi also urged locals and those outside the town to come in full force to enliven the Debak Fest. The Debak fest is expected to be officially launched on 4 November while the closing ceremony is scheduled on 11 November.
