KUCHING: The younger generation is reminded to be responsible users of digital Information and communication technologies like smartphones and Internet. Pending State Assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui stressed that nowadays everyone has to move together with information communication technologies and the Internet.

“Nowadays everyone has smartphone and everyone is using their smartphone to take video and photos and share those videos and photos in the social media. “But we need to always remember that when we move together with technology, when we use digital technology or the Internet or the social media platform we have to be responsible with whatever we disseminate because whatever little thing that we write will be read and everybody knows about it.

“We have to be responsible to whatever we disseminate through the social media platform,” she said when officiating at the closing of the Program Pewarisan Muda Negara 2018 (National Youth Inheritance Programme) held at Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here yesterday.

“So we must disseminate information that are only true and have basis, because whatever thing that you share and put in the Internet everybody will read and can be accessed, it can be made public, so we have to be responsible.

“Before posting statement in the Internet make sure it is a true statement and really has basis and don’t create statement that makes people angry,” she stressed. The three-day and two night programme organised by Malaysian Information Department was participated by 40 comprising students from Politeknik Kuching and Sarawak Public Health College.

Director of Sarawak Malaysian Information Department, Abang Sardon Bin Abang Hashim said the content of three-day programme included talks related to enforcement and laws related to cyber crimes by Malaysia Multimedia and Communication Commission, digital class and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme at Pasar Sungai Apong where the participants distributed pamphlets to create awareness on rabies and aedes.

At the closing ceremony Violet Yong also presented certificates to the participants and prizes to winner of a short video, Best Group, Best Performing Group, Most Cooperative Group, Best Participant, Most Sporting Male and Female participants.
