SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) caught a total of 408 stray dogs in the first eight months of this year.

SMC Chairman, Datuk Tiong Thai King revealed this while chairing the full council meeting here yesterday.

“As of August 25, 408 stray dogs were caught and only 60 have been claimed by their owners,” he said.

Tiong reminded the public especially those who have not come into contact with animals from rabies-infected areas to take precaution when they come across any aggressive dog while walking around their neighbourhood and also advised their children to do the same.

He also urged those who had been bitten by animals from rabies-infected areas to seek immediate treatment at the nearest hospital.

Also present at the meeting was SMC Deputy Chairwoman, Rogayah Jemain.
