KUCHING: The enforcement unit of the State Immigration Department arrested 41 illegal immigrants during Ops Mahir which started from 9.30am until 4.15pm on Tuesday.

The four-series operation was led by Immigration Senior Deputy Assistant Director (TPPK) Mehuen Runies, Immigration Deputy Assistant Director (TPPI) Hairol Asuad Usop and Immigration Deputy Assistant Director (TPPI) Shahrul Rizal Abd Malek.

Among the locations raided were construction sites around Kuching where 122 individuals comprising 37 locals and 85 Indonesians were checked.

Comprising 34 men and seven women those 41 illegal immigrants were all Indonesian nationals. They were suspected to have violated Section 11(7)(a) of Immigration Regulations, 1963 and Section 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for working without valid work permit, failing to present any valid identification and travel documents while in the country and overstaying in Sarawak.

All of them were sent to the Immigration Detention Depot in Serian for further action.
